Fourth of July

Happy belated birthday, America!

I got up early (hahaha, yeah right) to go see my little piece of America before the rain set in. It’s been raining on and off – more on than off and more heavy than light – for the past few weeks and Mother Nature doesn’t take holidays. Even Federal holidays!

So I got to see my little Apple Pie in the pasture and feed him some carrots. Nothing more American that a wild mustang, right? I may investigate how old he really is once I get the vet out and officially annouce 7/4 as his official, unofficial birthday. He’s that American!

He was out with Misty and Colors. He was glued to Musty’s side since she was near the fence to the paddock with several other horses visiting her. When he heard me, he turned around and came walking right up to me. He’ll do just about anything for a carrot.

Carrot whore.

I pet him a bit, took some really unflattering selfies and fed him the two carrots I had with me.

20130704_110719Hot stuff, right here.

Once the carrots were gone, he noticed that one of the other horses was putting it’s head over the fence to talk to Misty. It appears my little guy has a ladyfriend. He whirled around and trotted over making faces, pinning his ears and putting himself right inbetween the two of them. This was easily accomplished since there was, you know, a fence there too. he stood there to make sure the other horse wasn’t a threat anymore and then walked back up to me to beg for more carrots. Once he realized they really were gone, he was back to Misty’s side ASAP. Very cute.

I hate to say it, but she’s kinda tall for you, bud.

Also, an update on my puppy: His ACL has been confirmed torn and he cannot bear weight on his leg at all. He’s hobbling around on three legs until Monday, when we’ll go see an orthopedic surgeon and schedule his surgery. Poor guy. He’s plenty drugged and even did alright during the fireworks (what few were set off) last night.

About smokeythemustang

I'm just a girl who loves horses, who's asking horses to love her back. Right now I'm training a wild mustang. Or he's training me. You decide.

The area you keep your horses, is beautiful. I enjoy reading the progress you’re making with Smokey. He warms my heart and is so cute!

    • Thanks! The farm he’s at is really great. They have a lot of pastures with plenty of entertainment for him. And lots of friends to boss around with his street cred. Thankfully he’s just a big puppy dog to people!
