Week 17: Wounded!

Last night I was distracted while I was brushing Smokey (running my mouth, of course) and didn’t notice a rather large gash in his back right leg. It’s the same one Tucker jsut has surgerized! Stop it, animals! Anyway, it looks like he scraped it on a branch or stump or something; I don’t really think it’s a bite or kick. He seemed a bit tender and the front of his hock joint is slightly swollen, but no lameness. The joint didn’t feel particularly warm, either. He did spend some time scratching his head with that back foot and bending around to rub it, but aside from that didn’t seem to spend too much time thinking about it.

Incomming wound pictures!

I expect that I won’t have too much trouble with it, but i did spray a pretty solid amount of Scarlex on it and then Wonder Dusted it.

This is what it looked like after I wonder Dusted it pretty thoroughly.

And this is how Smokey felt about the whole thing. I’m sure he’ll be excited to know that he has a vet appointment to get shots and his teeth floated next week. Getting sedated so someone can grind your teeth for you sounds so exciting!

One Response to Week 17: Wounded!

  1. Chris says:

YouTube video with vet explaining different types of wound and how horses heal. There are demonstrations of how to dress and bandage wounds at different locations on the horse – foreleg, hind leg, on the hock, above the hock and the foot.
