It’s with baited breath that I wait for this weekend. I am FINALLY free of my walking cast from my foot surgery and I’m just dying to get some real work in with Smokey.
It’s been a full 6 weeks (!!!) since Elisa came out for a lesson, and while scheduling has been a nightmare, I’m still working on getting another lesson set up with her in the near future. The recent Atlanta Snowmageddon happened the day before our planned lesson, so naturally, it didn’t happen. The ground work that I’ve done with him since then has been lightyears better than it was before, even if I have dulled him a little more due to not being able to chase him when he’s being naughty. I’ve also been scared of slipping in the ever-present mud that snow/rain/low lying land blesses us with. So, all those little spooks behind the feed barn haven’t been properly explored.
But now that I’m back in real shoes (not my boots just yet), I can get down to business and actually put my butt back on my pony. I really can’t wait to do that most of all, and it might actually stem my endless search for a “riding horse” that’s been happening lately. Don’t worry, Smokey isn’t going anywhere – I was more just thinking of adding another one to the herd. You know, one I can’t afford. Thankfully, this should put an end to all of that nonsense!
In the meantime, I’m working on purchasing a bosal to try on him. He hasn’t been particularly pleased with the bit in his mouth and I don’t really see any reason to force it on him unless he can wrap his mind around it, so we’ll give this a try and see where it leaves us.
